Arsenal lodge €49m bid for Suarez

Arsenal have lodged a staggering bid worth €49 million for Luis Suarez.

The Londoners, yet to make a senior signing this summer, are believed to have told Liverpool they will pay €41m up front for the striker, topped up by €8m in add-ons.

Arsenal’s initial €41m bid, made up of €35m plus €6m in add-ons, was rejected out of hand by the Merseysiders three weeks ago.

It is not yet known what Liverpool’s response is to the latest demonstration of Arsenal’s new financial muscle in the transfer market.
The offer, which is comfortably a club record, is nearly double the €27m bid the Gunners made earlier this month for Gonzalo Higuain, who is in advanced talks to join Napoli for €37m.

Liverpool are fighting to hold on to a player who has spoken frequently this summer of his interest in a move, most specifically to Real Madrid.

Lagos dumps 70 beggars, others in Onitsha

No fewer than 70 beggars and the homeless were on Wednesday dumped at the Upper Iweka Bridge, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Agents of the Lagos State Government reportedly brought the destitute to Onitsha.
The destitute told journalists that they were dumped about 3am at Upper Iweka after being detained in Ikorodu, Lagos, for over six months for alleged wandering and other minor offences by the Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline officials.
The destitute said they were brought to Onitsha in four buses, escorted by riot policemen.
One of them, Mr. Osondu Mbuto, from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State and a petty trader in Lagos, said he was arrested by the Lagos State Government officials while going to his shop on December 18, 2012.
Mbuto added that the Lagos State Government officials were in company with some policemen.
The Chairman of Nigeria Red Cross Society in the South-East, Dr. Peter Katchy, described the action of the Lagos State officials as condemnable.
He said, “It’s very deplorable; it’s very disheartening that a state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria will bundle people, who are not even indigenes of Anambra State, and dump them under the flyover at Upper Iweka in Onitsha.
“Many of the people, we have interviewed are not indigenes of Anambra State. Some of them are from Ebonyi State; some are from Imo State among other states.
“It is an insult to Anambra State. We shall draw the attention of the governor of Anambra State to ask the reason for such an invasion of his territory.
“We will find out why Lagos State should invade Anambra State territory; and why Lagos State should dump people here and leave them helpless.
“We are here on humanitarian purposes and in response to an emergency. From  what we discovered here, this is a human emergency and a human callousness.”
Katchy, however, promised that the society would move the destitute to the Anambra State Social Welfare Centre in Onitsha South Local Government for rehabilitation.
The Lagos State Government had dumped another set of beggars at Upper Iweka late last year.
Calls made to the mobile phone of the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, for his reaction, did not go through.
He also did not respond to a text message sent to him by one of our correspondents.

Pep Guardiola led Bayern Munich wallop Messi led Barcelona

Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich enjoyed a 2-0 win at home against his former employers Barcelona in Wednesday's friendly as the Spaniards only played their stars until the break.
Although Barcelona left new Brazil signing Neymar at home, first-team regulars Lionel Messi, Javier Mascherano, Adriano, Alex Song and Alexis Sanchez all played the first-half in Munich.
Goals by Philipp Lahm and Mario Mandzukic either side of half-time were enough to give the Champions League winners victory over the Catalan giants at a sold-out Allianz Arena in front of 71,137 fans.

Pres. Jonathan orders removal of JTF Soldiers/ APC's at Rivers State Governors Lodge

As the political chaos in Rivers State edges towards the cliff, about 30 soldiers guarding the Governor's lodge have been summarily withdrawn by the Brigade Commander in charge of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Port Harcourt at the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan.
SaharaReporters also learnt that the soldiers took with them two Armored Personnel Cars (APC) usually stationed at Government House.
A military source told our correspondent that the removal of the soldiers was ordered from Abuja. He warned that things might get bloodier in the state capital with the JTF gone from Government House leaving the security of the governor and his aides in the hands of a few police officers and State Security Services agents.
An eyewitness said a new detachment of soldiers came briefly to inspect a third APC that seems disabled.
Saharareporters could not confirm further reports that the soldiers that were removed are being detained and interrogated at the barracks.
President Jonathan is currently on a state visit to China.

Removing the APC's and Soldiers puts The Rivers State Governor and the state in harms way.

Movie Review

Our movie review contains movies to see and those you might not want to see in Cinemas.
For what you would want to see, The Heat starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy is awesome and rib cracking. Takes too long to get rolling, but the laughs come eventually.

Some films are created awful, some achieve awfulness, and some have awfulness thrust upon them. The Lone Ranger has the latter, thrust upon it. A whooping 250million dollar budget which could be at a loss is where this motion picture is headed. You might want to help Walt Disney cut on those losses or take your money somewhere else. Lone Ranger hasnt come to any of our cinemas in Nigeria yet though.

Verdict: The Heat : 8/10
                The Lone Ranger : 4/10

The Heat Shows presently at the FilmHouse Cinemas at The Leisure Mall in  Surulere

Thursday Movie Review

We've decided to start a Movie review, due to endless pouring in of intended cinema or movie buffers who end up being disappointed about a movie they intend to see. This would precede Fridays of every week.
